Dr. Ghanei's Remarks at the Journalist Day Ceremony:
Updates on Petrochemical Production and Project Openings
At the Journalist Day ceremony held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Petrol, Dr. Rashid Ghanei, CEO of the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Downstream Industries Development and Investment Group, announced that the average production in the group's petrochemical companies has reached their nominal capacity. He added that with the commissioning of new projects, approximately 700,000 tons will be added to the group's production capacity.

According to Petrol's Public Relations, Dr. Ghanei, during the press meeting attended by the CEOs of the group’s subsidiaries, stated: "Petrol’s petrochemical companies are achieving average production at nominal capacity, surpassing the 79% average production rate of the Persian Gulf Holding's subsidiaries." He further mentioned that Petrol Group's total production increased from 975,000 tons in the 2021 fiscal year to 1.307 million tons in the 2022 fiscal year and 1.8 million tons in the 2023 fiscal year, marking a 30% and 38% increase, respectively. This signifies an increase of about 1 million tons in production over the past three years, and the group hopes to continue this growth this year.

Dr. Ghanei emphasized that with the commissioning of new projects, the group's production capacity will increase by approximately 700,000 tons. He also highlighted that the polyethylene production at Ilam Petrochemical is operating at 105% of its nominal capacity. The commissioning of Gachsaran Petrochemical has resolved some of the feedstock supply challenges for Ilam Petrochemical.

He noted that Urmia Petrochemical, which was operating at 60% of its nominal capacity, has now reached 100%. The Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) unit at Urmia Petrochemical is ready to be inaugurated, with the timing to be decided upon the full establishment of the fourteenth government.

Dr. Ghanei also announced the upcoming inauguration of a new fertilizer unit at Urmia Petrochemical, which will produce a product for the first time in the country. He mentioned that the first phase of the Arghavan Gostar Ilam Petrochemical project has been launched, and the second phase is nearing completion, with official commissioning expected this fall.

He further stated that after eight years, the final equipment for the Sadaf Petrochemical project has arrived on-site, and the project is set to be launched this year.

According to Dr. Ghanei, the financing for the Petroarmand Lordegan and Negin Sonqor projects is progressing, with both projects reaching 70% completion.

Dr. Ghanei also reported a recent halt in operations at Lordegan Petrochemical due to a gas supply cut. He criticized the situation, stating that it is unreasonable for urea production units, which have substantial outstanding claims from the government, to have their gas supply cut due to unpaid gas bills. He expressed hope that the new Budget and Planning Organization will resolve this issue.
